Balance for Memory Health

Balance Asanas are a standard practice in most yoga classes. The transitions and opportunities to find ourselves taking flight on either one leg, one arm or maybe even no legs will challenge our brains. We often focus on body strength, but your brain gets a work out, too!

Balancing requires great mental acuity. We must release external and mental distractions, stabilize our energy locks from the ground upward, find a focal point with our gaze, then move mindfully into a pose. Clearly a mindful process.

An Eye Gazing Point is known as a Drishti (dri-sh-tee), a powerful tool as we link up the muscles and skeletal system with our nervous system. Add in breath, and we enhance our respiratory and circulatory systems. The physical and mental connections stimulate our body and brain hemispheres, enhancing brain health and memory.

Dharana is the 6th Limb of Yoga practice for enhanced concentration, leading us into meditation, Dhyana, the 7th Limb to calms the mind. Science has proven that a moving or stillness meditation has high benefits for our brain.

So pop a fun, challenging yet mindful balance pose knowing you just boosted your brain for improved memory!

Taking flight to brain health,
