Yang Meets Yin

The yin and yang symbol represents harmony, when the duality of yin (black) and yang (white) with a dot of the opposite color, intersect to balance the other's energy.
Every June in America, we honor the positive, masculine influences in our lives with Father's Day. The harmonizing Yang Energy Forces to balance our feminine, Yin energy. In eastern philosophy when we fuse the opposing forces, we make us more whole. Yang represents the light, day, action, heat and fire, the sun energy. Yin balances with the dark, night, passive, cool and heavier earth and water energies.
Yoga practices include these opposing forces as we build strength and heat and include stretching and cool downs. Together they bring us more peace and clarity in our bodies and minds.
Men often tell me, "I can't do yoga". But yoga is beneficial for all genders, ages, sizes and cultures. I believe it's just a lack of experience with that first class and possibly ego. Every week I look forward to my Men's Yoga class on Wednesdays. This inspiring small group wanted to try yoga to improve their athletic performance and counteract the body's effects from sports. No ego, just pure focus and determination to explore the benefits physically with the bonus of practicing mindfulness. One first class was all it took.
A powerful pranayama practice: Nadi Shodhana, Alternate Nostril Breathing balances our yin and yang energies.
Encourage your daily life to include both action and stillness to enjoy what our ancient teachers shared with us including a simply stated symbol.
Honoring our Yang Energy Forces,

p.s. Fun Fact: Father's Day began in Washington state in 1910 when a young woman wanted to honor her veteran father, a single parent of 6 children. In 1972 it become a nationwide holiday, 58 years after Mother's Day was established in 1914. For the remainder of June (new student's only), bring the masculine mentor in your life, neighbor or friend to Fusion one free class. This makes a great Father's Day gift too!
