Root for Red
First stop with our Fusion Chakra series, Root Chakra. This one I need reminders for every day with my busy, unpredictable careers and lifestyle. Being rooted or grounded balances and stabilizes me for a better sense of security. The Root Chakra energy center, Muladhara in Sanskrit is at the base of our spine, encompassing our lower back and sitting bones. We stoke its energy when we engage Mula Bandha, our Root Lock, like a Kegel exercise.
Root to Rise, a common term by yoga teachers to ground our feet firmly moving upwards to a full standing position. We use Pada Bandha, our feet’s' energy locks, engaged muscles and sturdy bones as we extend through our torso and lengthen our spine. Reaching with our arms, hands, and ultimately our heavy head at the top. We find power and stability with mindful movement.
Root to Rise also means properly setting up a strong foundation for whatever touches the ground to properly extend and lift upwards. It can be any body part touching the ground for stability like our hands, knees or even our head. Just as a tree thrives with stable roots to grow a strong, healthy crown. Or a sturdy home starting with the basement before the walls and roof. Mountain Pose, Tadasana is a classic for grounding.
Ground and connect with our Root Chakra for our Sankalpa (intention) as we launch into 2025. Our mind body wellness commitment to move through our days more securely no matter what life tosses our way.
Wear a shade of red, your root chakra power color this week and in class representing to attract its energy. Create new rituals that start your day with fresh perspective, positive affirmations, breathing fresh air with warm sunlight on your body, mindful meditation, and an action plan to feel secure on exactly where you are in life. Just putting your bare feet on the earth will supercharge you for grounding.
