Chakra Kickoff – Root to Rise!

Kicking off our annual new year tradition of Chakra Energy Center series with...Root to Rise, a common term by yoga teachers to ground our feet firmly then move upward to a full standing position. We use Pada Bandha, the energy locks in our feet, engaged muscles and sturdy bones as we extend through our torso and lengthen our spine, reach through our arms, hands, and ultimately our heavy head at the top. We find power and stability with mindfulness in the movement.

But, rooting down to rise also means proper use of setting up any strong foundation for whatever touches the ground, allowing us to properly extend and lift upwards. It can be any body part to be used as our foundation like our hands, knees or even our head. Like a basement before the roof, strong roots before the tree's crown of leaves, a foundation must be securely set.

Being rooted or grounded can mean so much more. We also refer to our energy center, the Root Chakra, Muladhara in Sanskrit, at the base of our spine, encompassing our hips and sitting bones. Its energy is stoked when we engage Mula Bandha, our Root Lock.

So, Root to Rise can be our Sankalpa as we launch into 2023, our commitment to begin and move through our days grounded and secure no matter whatever life tosses our way.

Wear a shade of red, your root chakra power color this week and at Fusion representing your intention to attract a stronger sense of stability. Create new rituals that start your day with fresh perspective, positive affirmations, breathing fresh air with warm sunlight on your body, some mindful meditation, and an action plan to feel secure on exactly where you are in life. You are the mighty oak. Do yoga!

Grounded, yet moving into the new future I will manifest,
