Ahimsa for Our Wildlife Kingdom

Our beautiful planet's vulnerable Wildlife Kingdom
Meet, Mr. Miyagi, my sweet water bound Betta friend for the last 10 months. He's my first pet since losing my favorite cat of 17 years, Kitty who lived through what felt like Nine Lives for both of us. I may not have dogs anymore but relate to the connection we have with our other "family members". Sounds silly, but I love Mr. Miyagi and cherish our morning greetings and nite-nites when I tuck him in with his big bowl "blankie".

I have always wanted to "save" the dolphins, whales, panthers, bears, trees, and much more in nature. My heart sinks when I see so much overgrowth and development in natural habitats on land, water and skylines. I take a breath and remind myself to do what I reasonably can to do my practice of Ahimsa, being non-harmful or violent to ALL living things.
Ahimsa in western yoga practices focuses on how we care for ourselves and other people. Protect, preserve, kindness, compassion and love. Let's do our best for our world of animals, marine life, plants, birds, insects, and other creatures. Without them, we will perish and the beauty of our earth will dim. I believe I gave Mr. Miyagi a better life than that tiny plastic container he was in when we locked eyes in the pet store.

My own creation for our bees, butterflies, birds, and my enjoyment.
As we enter springtime, maybe plant a tree, a flower, volunteer or donate to a park, preserve. Join and become a Friend of BERT (Bonita Estero Rail Trail). Give up plastic, pick up trash, take your bag for purchases, conserve and repair items instead of trash. Simply be more conscious and mindful of your actions for that which cannot protect and preserve itself as it usually does naturally. We CAN co-exist! They will all return the favor in some beautiful way. Enjoy the beauty of this colorful season upon us.
