Power of Love Languages
My son Jesse's unsolicited Acts of Service pre and post Hurricane Irma 2017 to keep my home and Fusion safe 😍
This December and holiday season we will explore what's known as the Classic 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman and discover your primary Love Language. This is a time when we can focus more on expressing love, including our own needs while we share love. Surprisingly, what we think is another's preference for you to demonstrate your love for them is often your own Love Language, not necessarily theirs.
5 Love Languages
Acts of Service
Receiving Gifts
Quality Time
Words of Affirmation
Physical Touch
Each week we will dive deeper to understand what each means to you and how you can better receive, give and understand these sometimes foreign languages. This week we begin with Acts of Service and my own primary Love Language.
When someone helps me with tasks like reaching for an item on a shelf, a ride to the airport, and when my son fixes my technology or household chores, my heart feels so warm and happy. Especially when the act is unsolicited.
I prefer an Act of Service over receiving a tangible gift for instance, no matter how magnificent. It shows me their desire to ease my life and reduce my potential stress. Since those are strong needs, their service shows me love at some level. It takes effort. I used to decline help and in turn, I deprived them of showing love and compassion. I've learned to welcome it! We both benefit.
How important is service to you? Do your loved ones know how you feel about it? Communication is key...ask nicely, explain how helpful they can be, and thank powerfully!
Love with gratitude,
