Vata Vitality
I always dreaded leaving summer behind, going into colder temperatures and windy, darker days. When finally introduced to Aryurveda, the ancient Knowledge and Science of India, I understood why I felt different. Because I am Vata Dosha, predominantly made of more air and space, less fire, water and earth elements. I feel cold easily, have drier skin and hair, and windy days are not enjoyable. So, I need warmth, moisture and grounding. Simple!
Ayurveda also recognizes the seasons but there are 3 instead of the 4 we commonly know. We are in Vata season, exposed to more air and wind with less light of the sun's fire. Like the shedding of trees, we feel lighter and begin clearing creating more space. Movement is easier as we are less heavy with elements of water and fire/heat which are still necessary for metabolizing (Pitta dosha), and the earth element fused with water for lubrication (Kapha dosha).
3 Dosha Seasons:
- Vata-early fall to early winter, climate gets cooler and more dry
- Kapha-late winter to early spring, weather is coldest and more wet
- Pitta-hottest and longest days, late spring through summer
But, we need grounding and balancing of ALL elements.
Tips to Balance in Vata Season and of a Vata Dosha
Take in more moisture by ensuring proper water intake, warming and calming treatments for our body like sesame or lavender oils and lotions, a healing massage, walks in nature when not too windy, warm teas and soups with earthy ingredients like cinnamon spice and vegetables. Calm your mind and movements and do some self care with meditation, soft music and gentle yoga.
Think any options to warm, calm, center yourself and you will harmonize your vibrations and feel fabulous! And, we have Movement and Meditation class at 11am every Sunday and Somatic Surrender tonight at 4pm as perfect options to clear the body and mind's obstacles to make room for balancing your dosha!
Very Vata, yet feeling the Harmony,
