Our Sacred Sacral Chakra

3D illustration of Hip Skeleton, medical concept.

The Sacral Chakra has been considered sacred as far back as Egyptian times. Energetically our Sacral Chakra, or Svadhisthasana in Sanskrit thrives in the area of our hips above the tail bone but below the navel.

Our sacrum is a large triangular bone connecting the base of the spine between the tailbone and the last lumbar vertebrae in the back region of our hips. By 30 years of age there are 5 fused vertebrae (S1-S5) that form the sacrum, important for support, protection and structure. It joins our hips together at the sacroiliac (SI) joints for movement. Key muscles of the hip joints pull on the sacrum to move our legs. It surrounds and protects our lower spinal nerves and is central in the pelvic cavity supporting and protecting organs of the abdominopelvic cavity. So, I would certainly say it is quite sacred to our form, support, protection and reproduction.

This orange sphere when kept balanced and healthy is our energy center for creativity, pleasure and passion. Makes sense that it contains our reproductive organs! Think Happy Baby pose and how free we feel just exploring the pose massaging our sacral area as we rock back and forth.

Any physical or mental blockages we store will challenge and stagnate the flow of prana (vital energy). Focused yoga asanas, the postures warming up the hips and abdomen enhance blood flow to this region and help us eliminate toxins and waste.

Let's Chant V-A-M and wear orange this week to create vibrations and supercharge our sacral chakra and ignite more passion!

Loving a Happy Baby,

Gina
